How We Built the HuntCode Dashboard for Learners

Why Progress Visibility Matters

In cybersecurity training, confidence grows when learners can see their own skill development. Static completion bars don’t reflect depth of understanding or applied knowledge. The HuntCode Dashboard redefines progress tracking through live analytics, adaptive heatmaps, and skill visualizations that reflect real defender performance.

Architecture Behind the Dashboard

Each learner’s data flows from modules, lessons, CodeLab runs, and quizzes into a centralized analytics service. This service aggregates completion metrics, challenge scores, and activity timestamps, then surfaces insights via an API that powers the dashboard’s dynamic charts and progress maps.

Heatmap and Skill Scoring

The heatmap visualizes performance across the NIST NICE categories—Protect & Defend and Analyze. As learners complete labs and quizzes, HuntCode assigns weighted scores based on difficulty, accuracy, and recency. The dashboard highlights areas of strength and those that need reinforcement, helping learners focus on what matters most. Each quiz displays detailed results so learners can review answers, understand mistakes, and track improvement over time.

Privacy and Data Ethics

All analytics are anonymized and stored securely within AWS infrastructure. HuntCode never tracks keystrokes or personal identifiers—only verified completions and relevant system events. Learner data is used solely to provide feedback and measure skill growth. The goal is empowerment, not surveillance.

Adaptive Feedback Loops

The dashboard isn’t just a report—it’s a reflection tool. As learners complete labs and quizzes, HuntCode highlights areas of strength and those that may need reinforcement. These insights help learners self-assess their progress and understand which skill domains to revisit for improvement. Future updates will extend this feedback loop with personalized HuntBot recommendations for targeted practice.

Roadmap and Learner Trajectory

Beyond current progress, the HuntCode Dashboard integrates directly with each learner’s Roadmap. The Roadmap visualizes what’s ahead—upcoming modules, labs, and milestones—based on their progress and course structure. This gives learners a clear sense of direction while showing how today’s effort unlocks tomorrow’s mastery.

For instructors and program leads, the Roadmap offers cohort-level visibility: which modules are next, where learners are pausing, and how progress aligns with curriculum goals. Together, the Dashboard and Roadmap provide a living view of progress and potential.

Design Philosophy

We wanted the dashboard to feel like a mission console, not a spreadsheet. Clean typography, blue-violet gradients, and responsive layouts create focus while echoing the aesthetics of real Security Operations Centers. Every design choice reinforces clarity, confidence, and motivation.

Roadmap for What’s Next

Upcoming updates will expand the dashboard with PulseLab integrations, cohort analytics for instructors, and goal-setting features for learners. Over time, HuntCode will evolve into a full cyber readiness intelligence system that connects learning, performance, and operational skill maturity.

What This Means for Learners

The HuntCode Dashboard turns invisible learning into visible progress. Learners can finally measure their growth—visually, accurately, and continuously. It closes the feedback loop between learning and doing, helping every defender see how far they’ve come and what’s next on their journey.

Join the Pilot
